Life of Cheer?
ANGELA & BRIAN said:

THANKS UNCLE ANDY ~ For brihtening our Christmas Morning (its now Noon !) with an excellent Jazz Trio playing a lovely & lively Tune. You always surprise us Musically ~ even on Christmas day ! Love the sentiment of your Poem and we hope & pray your wish will be answered ! However the reality is that the GAP between the HAVES & HAVE nots widens every day ! There will be many @ this Christmastime who will spend more on Alcohol than a Family in LETHOSO have to feed themselves for a WHOLE YEAR ! JESUS said *The Poor you will always have with YOU* and he was right ! The SALVATION ARMY Worldwide will feed many Lonely & Needy today *Many Thousands Wordlwide - AMEN !* It is one branch of the Christian Church ~ Angela & I support financially the Year round because they actually practice what JESUS Preached !

Blessings & Peace @ this Christmas Time
To You and Your Beloved JOYCE & Family
Love & Prayers as always ~ BRIAN & ANGELA

Meanwhile, Fido fixes Christmas - sounds like a film title. He reminds me to take my water-syphon to parties. He don\'t want any \'merriment!\' He\'s a pest. lol.

A good write Gold. Seasons Greetings to you and yours too! Yes, a difficult time for some (for many?)
. I believe the change or \'fix\' needs to be from within people, not merely changing the \'outward\' things, call it society, or whatever we may call it.
A carol wisely expresses it:
From \'O little town of Bethlehem\':
\'O holy child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born in us today (by the Spirit)\'

A fine write Gold, and Seasons Greetings to you and yours.
But, aww, why they wish every piece of mine would be silent?! lol.
I was gonna produce an album, but the producers insisted I called it \'Two Cats Fighting!\'

A Subaltern\'s Marriage.
ANGELA & BRIAN said:

Good Evening UNCLE ANDTY ~ Ahhhhhhhhhhh *MISS JOAN HUNTER DUNN* a Betjeman Classic & one of his BEST ! Angela & I give talks on JB & his Poems. We share the recitation but this one always Falls to ME ! It is a delight to recite but it deserves to be recited slowly and with great respect ! Anyone who can work the WORD *EUONYMUS* (Winter Creeper ~ Flowering Plant) into a Poem deserves to be Poet Laureate ! There are some other delightful lines in the Poem and in my Literature Classes for Adults I lend would-be-Poets a portfolio of about 12 Betjamin Poems and ask then to read mark learn and inwardly digest them ! I ask them to recite their fave and I play it back to the GROUP.. As Tommy Dorsey said to SINATRA to be an effective SINGER you have to *MILK THE WORDS like CROSBY* Its the same with being a PERFORMANCE POET ~ One has to *MILK THE WORDS* and JBs words are very very milkable !

We love the actual last verse :

The scent of her wrap - and the words never said
And the ominous ominous dancing ahead
We sat in the Car Park till twenty to one
And now Im engaged to MISS JOAN HUNTER DUNN !

The cars mentioned HILLMAN - AUSTIN - ROVERS - Betray the ERA !

Blessings & Peace to YOU & YOUR Beloved JOYCE

Alan .S. Jeeves said:

A Subaltern\'s Love Song is an astounding poem, Andy, poetic license of course.
One must be very careful when naming names in poetry. J. Hunter Dunn was still living when this became a world wide, well known poem and deemed to be one of JB\'s finest.
She became Mrs. Joan Jackson and died in, I think, 2008. She did not, however, have JB\'s son.
The pen is mightier than the tennis racquet.

A good write Gold. Aww, but why he wish bombs to fall on Slough? That\'s not that far from me. We\'re not friends with him!
Should I try this style? It would be a very short song, if I must sing - one verse!

ANGELA HERE - Thanks for caring UNCLE ANDY - We both love Beethoven ! Appassiona very frenetic ~ almost the BUM of the Flightel BEE ! Big contrast to the Moonlight at the beginning !
CARPE DIEM ! We dont get many TANKAS and they do presnt an opportunity to amplify the SENRYU (or HAIKU) which is their role !

By Her Side.
Laura🌻 said:

Andy,

You had tears flowing down your face as you were writing this ...
I had tears flowing down my face as I read it!
It reminded me of the night my mom decided to give up her earthly existence and let her spirit fly to join my dad’s! I sat next to her and her last words to me were, β€œLet me go. Don’t cry. Just sit next to me. Everything will be alright!” I fell asleep with my head next to hers as she quietly slipped away! I feel cheated in the sense that we never said goodbye! That is what I constantly think about...and the tears flow uncontrollably!

I know if she were here she would tell me to stop the crying and to get over it!
I do try to listen, but it’s not easy!

My love to Joyce and to you!
I do think of her a lot!

~Laura~

A fine write Gold. Yes, and \'tomorrow\' never comes. When it gets here, it\'s always \'today\'.
Did I muck it up in 1066? - those who gave their \'today\' that we might have our \'tomorrow\'. No tomorrow for Harold! Doh!
