Ah - - one of my all time favs of John Betjeman\'s talent for writing fun-poetry is this cleverly rhymed ode to a favoured young lady. I have often read this out loud just for the perfection of tone and metre. Thanks for sharing it Brian and all the best for your lecture this evening.

One of my favourite poets as well. Whren I read his work I can hear his voice - I have an anthology of his works on disc which I often put on in the studio. Just one comment to make - whilst he was excellent his work is nearly all in the same vein - I wish he had explored different form more often.

A fine write Brian. I wondered what he was doing at that station. I thought he had been waiting hours for a train, until I realised it was a statue! (??? lol).

John Betjeman is my favourite poet.
A few years ago I was given a challenge to write a poem with only twenty words with a literary inspiration, this is what I wrote:

At last I was married
To Miss Joan Hunter Dunn.
And a little while later
She bore us a son.

Check the spelling of Betjeman it is spelt in three different ways on your write, the one in the penultimate line is the correct spelling

Fun! There is a little town in Northern California called Boonville. When I was a child, the town\'s people had their own word system for similar reasons. The language was called, \"Boontling\".

A very rich and clever language is Cockney-speak Brian and thanks for the amusing examples you gave in this tale of rhyming for the reason of hiding what traders were saying in the days back when. A good video too.

CARING FOR OTHERS !
Laura🌻 said:

Mio Caro Amico BRIAN,
Hai scritto una poesia piena di verità!
An honest and poignant write! My dad never believed in credit cards! Before he’d buy anything, he made sure he had the money to pay for it! I’m the same! The only reason why I have two credit cards is because there are things you can only purchase or rent with credit cards!
My son, on the other hand, had to learn the hard way of abusing the use of credit cards! It was a difficult lesson...but he learned his lesson! I’m proud to say that the entire family helps the less fortunate!

CARING FOR OTHERS !
BRIAN & ANGELA said:

Thanks for caring FAY ~ I knew this timely message would resonate with you. Debt among the affluent is very sad because it means that despite \"having everything\" they have no surplus to share with those much much less fortunate. Some of my extended Family work with a Mission in LESOTHO on of the Poorest Countries in Africa. They have very little ~ but value what they have and are happier and more content ~ than many of us in the Affluent West. Yours as always ~ BRIAN

Wise words of advice in that final stanza of needed reminders of how much and how many need our care and our help. Living as simply as income reveals means we can put aside something to benefit others whom poverty weakens. A powerful read Brian.

Good write Brian, Wales is a great place to visit, so I am told.
I used to have a friend who was a tanker driver and he always said that the best thing about Wales was the M4 Bridge coming out!
