This sound like the speaker has had it with someone highly educated and full of themselves. Or --- this could be looking in mirror and analyzing one\'s life.

Wow. You made my day. Half of the poems I published were written in the 80\'s and lay in a file since then. Some I tweaked a little before publishing on this site. Most poems I write come from some emotional experience. I take an hour or 2 to write, then sit on them for 2-3 days before reading again. I try to trim unnecessary words unless they helpful to the rhythm.

Kevin, It was not a biblical reference. Louisiana USA, Mississippi,Alabama and Florida all border on the Gulf of Mexico. Before "Tarmac and Hotels and restaurants" were built there a person could enjoy seeing the beach and the water on a long drive along the beautiful coast line. Now of that is destroyed. "Blasphemy"! was used simply as "Darn" or Dangit, being a bit anoyed with all of the construction.

I like the symbolism in your poem, and it goes back and forth with darkness and then somewhat of a ray of hope. When I read this, it made me think of "A Christmas Carol" by Dickens... The way Marley described to Scrooge how he has to wander around in existence to witness what he cannot share, but might have shared. Makes me wonder, is this what purgatory is all about? You captured this feeling in the poem quite well... Nice!
