Where does poetry come from?
LIZ said:

Poetry to me is EXPRESSION, derived from an overflow of deep feelings/ experiences. So, yes, emotions are very much involved. Consciousness of the mind as well, but this is more complicated since it has to do
with awareness. Both subjective. The more aware I am, the clearer my emotions/thoughs become and I can better translate them into poetry/art.

Poetry is Dead

It\'s the effort and intention that keeps poetry alive. AI will beat us at poetry, chess and many other things, but at without suffering and struggling and putting effort into it, like we mortals do?

My comments on OK Waleed’s comment of 27 May, 2023 : “AI will replace poets.”

I will point out the following.
(a)
(Quoting Hazlitt). \"Poetry is the language of the imagination and passions.\"

Dr. C. PAUL VERGHESE : \"ADVANCED LEVEL GENERAL PAPER.\" SINGAPORE : FAIRFIELD BOOK PUBLISHERS PTE. LTD., 1988. (FIRST PUBLISHED IN 1985 BY : THINKERS LIBRARY PTE. LTD.)

(b)
“Poetry ..... is the supreme form of emotive language.”
I. A. RICHARDS : \"PRINCIPLES OF LITERARY CRITICISM.\" LONDON : ROUTLEDGE & KEGAN PAUL, 1967. (REPRINTED 1983). (FIRST PUBLISHED 1924).

I have asked ChatGPT to analyse many of my poems. Extract :

“ChatGPT
As an AI language model, I do not have feelings or emotions, but I can provide a perspective on the situation...” 29 April, 2023. From the comments by ChatGPT on my poem “Dying unknown (1).”

(c) Artificial Intelligence is already writing poetry of its own, but the feelings and emotions it mentions are imaginary : it never experienced them…

I am done with this.

My comments on the poem \"Poetry is dead” by Ok Waleed
Poetry exists since thousands of years and has not died. For now it appears to be eclipsed by massive sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. They have convenient, instant platforms on which to post stuff, to comment, to share, etc. They offer technological facilities. In themselves they have no poetry, no artistry. The facilities offered by sites should not be confused with the value of something like poetry. The CONTAINER should not be confused with the CONTENTS. Even if all these platforms were to disappear suddenly, poetry will still remain. It will be scribbled on walls of caves, on rocks. Old tablets existed before modern ones, though modern electronic ones are very convenient and can hold a lot of stuff. All those platforms are MACHINES and they can never replace people. It is people who are creative. It is people who created things like Facebook.

“Lucas on Wordsworth [1771-1850]

\"(.....) So today his is still a living voice, crying in the wilderness its prophetic protest, not only against the unhealthiness of all over-civilisation, but also against the drab brutality of the machine-world and of the mass-state. (.....) (Page 223).

\"(.....) It is always one of the hardest things in life to hold the balance between letting the world be \"too much with us,\" and too little : and Wordsworth tended to grow too much the hermit of Grasmere, the Grand Lama of the Lakes. But at least he never renounced his conviction that it is only states of mind and feeling that really matter; not things, nor machinery, nor even books (that was poor Southey\'s mistake) --- for books, too, are machines, however good ones. (.....) (Page 224). \"FIFTEEN POETS.\" OXFORD : ENGLISH LANGUAGE BOOK SOCIETY AND OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS, 1970.

If all contents are wiped from the electronic platforms, what value will these THINGS have ?!...
