Let Me Live in my World

There are stark contrasts here. “common country lass” versus “queen.” “borrowed glass” is mysterious. What is the exact meaning ? Glass symbolizes fragility. There are comparisons with buds, lotus and the lily. One thing we will notice with the lily is the sharp contrast between the mud that feeds the plant and the beauty of the flower. Though the plant lives off mud, it produces striking flowers. “Don’t love me” are devastating words…. We often hear the opposite : crying to be loved. Here, there is a rejection of love. Perhaps this comes from deception or bad experiences. Choosing nostalgia : insisting on living in the past. “build my utopia” : another indication of refusing evolving reality and taking refuge in dreams. Dreams are secure because they are fixed in time; they cannot be altered.

A poem so easy to identify with and my favorite line is the last (Let me build my Utopia, once Plato dreamed in Greece) perfect.

A story in itself this could also be a metaphor for the loss of innocence. Nicely done
