Angela & I love Trad Jazz and Angela can make a fair attempt on the Ivories & I have the Guitar Chord sequences to lots of them. I heard Barber - Ball & Bilk in Concert (separate not together !) a privilege even in their DOTAGE. BALL (2013) & BILK (2014) are now part of the BIG JAZZ band in Glory but CHRIS BARBER is still playing on @ 90 ! Theirs was a great era in British Jazz never to be repeated. My DAD can do a fair Scott Joplin impression and loves Jazz as much as Classical ~ AMEN. As you say JAZZ goes straight to the FOOT via the SOUL !

For all of us there are things which make us happy and have made us happy and these mix with that which brings us sadness in the moment and in the past..... it can all be there more or less at the same time. Joy at seeing someones mirth can be felt at the same time as feeling sadness for someone we know or have known who cannot see what we see or be able to take part in such mirthful activity.
So for me, I focus upon what has brought me happiness and hold it in my demeanor, I smile a lot. I am happy knowing that the sadness I carry is at the back of my mind, easily accessible behind a door ajar and does not darken my outlook.
I think you have a similar way about you for it would be hard for you to be such a positive individual otherwise. I hope so.
