Just-ifying Myself
Doggerel Dave said:

You have an interesting style, Jo - allows for quick comprehension, which is not to say that your poem is any the less valid for that...
I was with you all the way until I hit God a the bottom, and I\'m not quite sure where you are there.

I think you are right - but if at anytime you wanted to change, then let it be for you.
A neat little write, Jo

Then Maybe
dusk arising said:

Oh, I\'ve had a lifetime of being as you describe. But it wasn\'t me, it was just those around me who I was foolish enough to want to be alike.
Many years later I look back upon the years to see i didn\'t miss out on much. I did it my way. I\'m grateful for what I am, what I have, what I can do.

Free To Be

Just be you, know yourself. Google a piece called Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. Print it out and stick it on the back of your bathroom door... contemplate it in your solitary moments.

How Do You Begin?
dusk arising said:

Accept is indeed a very strange word if you cannot accept yourself for what you are. Though sometimes shame creates an unassialable barrier.

How Do You Begin?
L. B. Mek said:

\'Why don’t you try
To be you, only you
Don’t focus on them
Let the true you shine through

How do you begin
To accept others
If you have not
Accepted yourself\'..

Superfluity
Doggerel Dave said:

And neither should you be obliged to.
Mum wants to fulfill her desired role as grandmother. If you were produced with that in mind, then....

It would be the height of irresponsibility for anyone to bring a child into the world unless they can guarantee a perfect upbringing, a start with the best possible advantages that society can provide - and who, in these uncertain times can guarantee that?
A neat little write - thank you.

Denouement
L. B. Mek said:

\'It’s so hard getting noticed by royalty
with a wardrobe of tattered rags.
It’s so tiring wandering outside the gates
carrying life in threadbare bags.\'
especially, when we\'re the ones
that deem those unworthy others
as our lives royalty mirages...
an intriguing read on projecting
our ideals on others
while demeaning our worth
based on fear fuelled, facades!
thanks for sharing
your acutely insightful commentary

I really love this. It\'s certainly how I feel about someone in my life. A beautiful soul I admire so, who for some reason spends time with me (better not to question it haha).

Your lovely words really remind me of my favourite writer - Maggie Nelson. She writes:

\'You ran at least a lap ahead of me, words streaming in your wake. How could I ever catch up (by which I mean, how could you want me?)\'

And that a lover is like:

\'A beautiful bird who chose, by nothing short of grace, to make a habitat of your heart\'

Anyway, thanks for sending me off on this wonderful tangent! xx

dusk arising said:

Beguiling, but my thoughts turned to the environment. Beauty of the natural environment being the unmeasureable subject we often try to capture in verse..... where to go to capture its unpolluted reality?

For me your words are very thought provoking.
