A great write and thanks for the BH clip - Unintentionally I looked much like BH in my youth and to this day certain family members still refer to me as BH.

A good write Gold. This seems so for some (many?). Yet some oldies can still go swanning about, etc, enjoying life, though I don\'t begrudge them if theyare able to do so.
Ahh - the old \'chestnut\' or \'stumbling-block\' (?) about \'Why suffering?\'

Great music, reminds me of how Buddy Holly\'s sound filled my childhood home when my older siste brought home his EP. It got more plays than anything else. To this day i enjoy playing \'Peggy Sue\' on my ukelele having changed the title to \'Ruby-doo\' for my granddaughter.
I don\'t feel like old age is punishing other than my aching knees and back (seeing osteopath today amid various jobs). I\'m pleased with my status of being an experienced and knowledgeable senior in my trade. Though it does worry me that my prospective customers may feel I\'m too old and doddery to do the work.
On reflection i can see how you personally may see ageing as a punishment. Some of the bland reasoning provided by our churches concerning suffering of ageing is more than questionable.

The Sixties, was I There?

I just read your poem. Really enjoyed. Although I wrote psychedelia and liked the doors, my teens were 70s with glam rock and all that.

Lake Walking.
FineB said:

Hello Goldfinch,

A vivid and lovely poem.

Thank you.

The only time I have heard of people walking on a lake or river for that matter was when I was in Prague and on a boat cruise around the River Vtlava. The guide told us that so many years ago the River froze and people literally walked on it without falling in.

What makes it worse for me is I was there in the late 50s as well - no mention of Buddy holly - he was my favourite and I still have the vinyl (even the early Brunswick recordings) - oh those were the days. Thanks for the look back Andy - a fine reminder.

As Mary Hopkin once sang.. Those were the days my friend.. Although I was around throughout the 60\'s, I came of age during the next decade .. I still wore my hair long and nowt but denim & patchouli oil when not at work until much later.. at work I was renown for my kipper ties... and here is a little known fact but totally true.. I once sang on stage at the Bedford Lido with Gerry Marsden & the Pacemakers.. thanks ever so for a delightful nostalgic ride back in time.... Neville

The Sixties, was I There?
dusk arising said:

Yes those were the days, i must be a couple of years your junior for elvis was a \'has been\' - my older sisters king, not mine. But her Duane Eddy and Johnny Tillotson did fill the house before my Otis Redding and Temptations took over. Scooters, fur lined parka collars, union jacks, tiger tails, and dad\'s reams of green shield stamps from his motoring. Oh and Embassy coupons... nostalgia.

Thanks for the memory trip.

You going to Chios in July (the Aegean) - 700th anniversary of that battle? I\'m sure we were in that too.

THANKS UNCLE ANDY : I was raised Catholic so I love AVE MARIA and any Hymn that brings Glory to Our Blessed Lady ! I love the simplicity and serenity of Evangelicals like BRIAN and I love the JOY of the Services : But I have several reservations one of which is their almost completely ignoring of the Blessed Virgin Mary : WHY ?
I agree with you about the power of singing to raise ones Spirit ! It ALWAYS happens to me singing in the Congregation or Choir and in NZ Music is a very important element in Worship !
