Protecting Moon.

Can one outgrow Gold Finch, our great poet of solitude, of love loss comprehended as farce? I think so, yes. In the impatient, zestful still-youthful adulthood of one’s life. When at last one takes control of one’s life. Or believes one can, or has. … You outgrow Gold Finch. But then one day, abruptly, you return to Mr. Finch. As the brash arc of adulthood begins to wan. It’s like discovering yourself in a corridor you would have sworn you’d never been in before — yet you know it. This staircase, this door to be opened, this room. It’s all there. Always has been there. Unchanged. Waiting for you.

Time No Longer.

You were a magician of language, and it would be most respectful, perhaps even ethical, not to look too closely into the workings of your magic. But it’s to the brilliance of your credit that analysis of your methods does nothing to erode the joy of amazing stories. Like all good magic, YOURS just cannot be explained away. And thank God for that.

A Man of Infinite Leisure.

Reading Finch, you’re constantly assailed by the notion that he is writing down what you have always known, except that you’ve never thought of it before. This is highly unnerving; fortunately, you’re usually too busy smiling like crazy. I can think of no finer poem to have beside me while land masses implode and sea floors explose, while the world ends.

No Money In Good.

I like how the poem addresses the concept of a life without kindness as a word of desperation. You can clearly see that Mr. Finch compares it to being imprisoned humanity, when either of those can\'t be freed without humility. Very accurately penned, because a life without kindness would be aimless.

The Last Station of The Cross.

Mr. Finch has an astoundingly tuned voice — graceful, sincere, firm, authentic, and at times funny — telling just the kinds of stories we need to get us through these times

Good write. I don\'t tend to use the word \'luck\', but I know what you mean. You have your own personal situation, as we all do. Yet it seems we don\'t have to go too far to see someone else who is not so blessed as we ourselves are. Maybe it\'s partly to remind us to get the humble pie out and eat another slice of it?!

There is never true perfection, I guess. But, it is the journey, isn\'t it? I try to learn more along the way so there is always something on the back burner to accomplish. Thanks for this thought this morning Goldfinch!

Good write. Yes, seems so - if we \'arrive\', then where to next? What to do next? \'Perfectionism\' can be a psychological thing.
How do I know that word this time of the morning?! (about 9 a.m. UK time).
