Good discussion here. As said above there were places of sanctuary long before churches existed and for me, as one without belief, I still enjoy sitting in the sanctuary of a church where I can contemplate and be at peace with myself without any interruptions or interference. Providing always (oops a phrase I used a lot when giving legal advice) there is no choir with Orchi singing.

This is so true of being alone in some Churches, God is there and touches you with His presence. Being alone in a Church is so wonderful.

Communing Contemplation

Churches have an effect upon the soul don\'t they. Quite apart from any ceremony (which tends to disturb the peace) somehow one can be at peace and commune with ones soul. Wiser people than me say that these sites, where todays churches stand, were sites of ceremony long before christianity arrived on our shores.
I have found moments alone in these places a far more sppiritual experience than any gathering or meeting of \'praise\'.
I don\'t share your faith though i am sympathetic to the experience you describe here.

You\'re good at this type of writing. I swear, it gets me every time. I like how the first stanza reflects the loneliness you felt whilst being enveloped in the silence in that rural cathedral. Nicely done.

I genuinely hope I get to see the end of the world some day. But hey, here\'s to living a little longer eh? Glad to see your still sticking with it my fine furry friend. May your Lord bless you with the will to keep writing as you do. It truly is a wonderful thing to come back from an absence to see you still writing.

I wrote this to fill in a \'missed page\' in a notebook. It turned out to be a powerful little piece, I think! We all need \'oomph\' but it\'s not human effort.

Good to see the clergy/ministers joining in the singing too. Some places they just sit there, dare I say it, like (dumb) muppets, during the hymns!

Orchi,

A great hymn and poem!
It reminded Lorna of the movie “Conan the Barbarian”! A movie I did enjoy watching!
It reminded me of Charlton Heston’s chariot race in the movie, “Ben-Hur”! One of the movies on my favorites list!

I\'m sorry Orchi - all I could think about when I read is Conan the Barbarian movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. When asked \"Conan what is best in life\" - Conan replies: Destroy your enemies, see them run before you and hear the lamentation of the women\"..... all in a deep Austrian accent ...... so funny....... so I\'m laughing! Shame on me.......

Thanks STEVE ~ Love it when you think outside the A & M BOX ! Love TAIZE it always lifts me into the SPIRITUAL DIMENSION ~ we do have them in Essex in various Christian Denominations it is a very ECUMENICAL form of WORSHIP. Often we incorporate verses in other LANGUAGES ~ European ~ Eastern ~ Asian & African. Love the POEM ~ like the TAIZE it was endless but never monotonous

O LORD hear my Prayer
I know you are there .......... !

Great opening ~ Thanks for caring ~ Heavenly Blessings BRIAN 😎 & ANGELA 🧡
