My Heart Still Beats The Same

Children can be so cruel. I can remember being ridiculed because I looked like a stick insect. It hurt at the time, but I do believe I grew in strength as a result of those experiences. A touching write dear Tobani, which resonated with me.

My Heart Still Beats The Same
Tristan Robert Lange said:

For some, childhood was a dream, for others a nightmarish horror. I had a mix of the two. My home life was stable overall, but my school/social life was a living horror. Abusive teachers, bullied by my peers, a social outcast (not even sure why)…then add in a Traumatic Brain Injury, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideations, substance use, etc. Poetry, faith and a few very beloved friends got me through…but some of that may have been more luck than anything. We all know those who did not survive those times…well, at least I do. 😢 I could have been, came close to being, one of them. Anyway, your poem touches my heart because it hits a heart that has wide cracks in it from experiencing its content. In some ways, this heart stopped beating the same way as a result. It misses beats now. I know these words, deeply and personally, and I am sorry you or anyone else has had to go through it. This can be a cold harsh world and that harshness can certainly manifest in the worst ways in children as well as adults. 😔 A wonderful, moving expression of an ugly, horrific reality. 🌹👏❤️‍🩹

Being different is a distinction but there is great comfort in being the same, it’s a crowd thing, in every observable culture. There is a strong pull to go either direction and a strong sense of self and trusted support community can make things easier.

If everyone around you is crazy and you are sane, you will have the illusion that you are crazy. Your point of view is unique, and I feel your words have a sincere soul.

All social animals have a tendency to pick on those that they perceive as different. Sometimes this results in death and at others such adversity creates great strength. Certainly from that perspective there is the capacity for greater compassion and understanding. A wonderful write that flows from the heart that same heart that beats the same.

The world we live in today is contradicted by the fact that the good parts of nature are disappearing as humans try to produce them.

I remember well as a youth climbing the mountains and camping where we would not see another person for weeks. Today hikers and campers are so thick you have to fight them off the trails. Things have changed people are everywhere and with them they bring their problems, eco-devastation, crime, charging for the privilege of parking, standing, looking, noise and just general annoyance. Loved the poem

they say the only things people can agree on are death and taxes...I\'ve tried to think of a few more, but there is always the thought that someone will choose not to believe something just for the heck of it.

Wow! Amen! The poem is spot on! I, too, have seen and witnessed that. Again, as your note puts it, 99.9% of the comments on this site are encouraging and supportive. This is truly one of THE most supportive communities I am privileged to be a part of. Still, even 0.1% shitty-ness is 0.1% to much, imho! You are right to craft this poem and call it out. And yes, arqios\' words...and now yours...very much ring true! Well done, friend! 🌹👏

A most poignant write with a message we all should hear. If you enjoy poetry you must encourage the poet. True poetry in a landscape of technology is dying and needs careful nurturance to thrive. Be kind is the message and point is well taken

Bella Shepard said:

It is the lunatics of the world, with their unrealistic visions of what can be as opposed to what is, and have never wavered from their commitment, that has saved us time and again. They\'re still out there. I love this poem and the absolute truth of it. May we keep faith in each other, and make it stronger. Great write!
