What a well composed poem to sum up that feeling of hope and light being worn down until it is finally put out.

Very touching.... dismisses all the minor things we stress over in life and then cuts to the chase.

Good write Sue. We have been to Fountains Abbey some years ago and it is truly wonderful.
We too have the remains of an Abbey in Evesham, apparently it was so important that one of the villages it used include in its area was some little town called Birmingham.

A fine write Sue. We\'ve an Abbey ruins near our town centre too. Not as much of it left as this one. Ours dates from 1121. It\'s thought Henry I is buried there (Reading, Berkshire).

Sue, this is so well written, I could feel the anguish, loneliness and fear. It is a real problem here too. Too many people are only one paycheck away from having to live on the streets. So good of you to address this sad state of affairs with your poem.

I was homeless for a while it happened very fast and seemed impossibility slow to fix. So few shelters living off soups and sandwiches whatever you can scrounge not a fun way to live.
Good write just wish it were a true work of fiction.

Sue, I love your poem. Sad and real. I don\'t know where you got inspiration to write this but you pictured it so perfect. Congrats on your poem.

Booze can be like that can\'t it. It\'s enjoyable in small measure but somehow its real easy to overdo it without realising. No body wants the awful result which is a hang-over so that proves the point. I think your piece conveys this very well.
