Had to look up whom you were referring to, but I must say the poem was splendid. I really enjoyed the read. Thank you.

Called to War
L. B. Mek said:

my words are too feeble, to honour your write
with empty commentary, so if you\'ll permit me
I\'ll borrow, words of a true battle hardened Genius, survivor
of war\'s, all-consuming Horror:
\'Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams before my helpless sight
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil\'s sick of sin,\'

Then teach me to live, to love and not hate …\'

Wars have ever made skies weep large tears - - these few lines of poetic power tell well some of the troubles about being drafted to \"someone else\'s war\" and results of objecting......... \"shame on them all\" for wars in the first place my friend.

It\'s always someone else\'s bloody war. In Australia of right age at the time of Vietnam and conscription by ballot. I did not win a place --- It terrifies me even now to think that had I won, I could have lost my life or been damaged beyond repair as a result of participation in that act of absolute futility.

And as Redgum put\'s it - \'I was Only 19\'.

Thanks v. much for a very powerful write Nev.

Neville,

Thank you for sharing a ‘bit of history’ about the Anchoress.
A very interesting individual.

I share in her belief that in the end
‘ all will be well,\'

Yep, all fine then.
Good names live on (including Julian here). Bad names may be remembered too, but they rot away.
And - You seen any \'e\'ermores\' about, or even \'ne\'ermores\'?
(do shut up now Orchi. lol.)

Oh such a horrifying time to be alive and thanks - I never knew of her till now - with plague and the Peasant Revolt I\'m not surprised she stayed in her cell. We can do the same for Covid and the aftermath of Trump. I thought I was dying too!

The Treatise of Love
L. B. Mek said:

this write underlines my root argument
for not throwing out, everything connected
to those somewhat dubious theological belief avenues
when we individually or collectively, experience a loss of faith..
because, immensely Important
characters of our inherited history
that demonstrated humanity\'s capacity
for a humbly humanist, way of life
like: Julian of Norwich
or Catherine of Bologna
and more recently, Mother Teresa
are washed away, as is their legacy
and exemplary demonstration of selflessness..
so sometimes we have to ignore
all their zealotry of belief, to insure
that goodness of empathetic love
which manifested, as tangible lifelines
to so many lives, is celebrated
and the tradition of caring for the most needy
in our society, continues and Evolves..
and remember, this are just three names
from one fraction of a theological belief system
how many, widely differing religions are there
and how many individuals have performed heroic
self-sacrificing acts
of comprehensive wholesome goodness: unrewarded?
modernity can denounce religion\'s symbolic mysticism all it wants
but lets not lose
the essential - good, with the despairingly: abundant, bad...
(thanks for sharing, dear Poet
and offering me a platform
to argue my perspective on the negative elements
of discarding everything in our collective history
that\'s assumed as being \'complicated\' or \'problematic\'...!
lets keep some of the good when rightfully filtering out the bad
or else, we\'ll eventually forget
so many, who sacrificed themselves for goodness and charity
Heroically!)
and without their examples, who
are future generation\'s supposed to follow
self-obsessed opportunistically profiteering: celebrity\'s..?!
