My best friend died in Nam . U.S. Marines . Came home in a coffin . Told not to open for view . I tried to join the Army , was 4-f . Didn\'t want anyone who was allergic to tress . Draft number selected was 316 so I was never called . I appreciate what all our soldiers went through , agent orange , nightmares , anxiety attack , the disillusionment . The war crime of invading Cambodia and the super secret excursions into Laos , certainly a blemish upon the honor of our men . I will always remember the pain and anguish of a vet telling me about having to shoot a six year old because you never know when they are booby-trapped with a bomb and they are told to go to the Americans for candy . So they giddily run up only to be gunned down . I could see the terror and reget in his eyes forever .

Excellent work Augustus! You will stir many a soul with this one. You brought out the true grit and grime that is war and its impact on young men and women.

Send to Don , maybe it would do some good . Nah , probably not . The man/boy lives in another world , a pigment of his own imagination .

Such a great approach to something all writers dread. Great job Augustus. This one really shines with the rhymes :)

Amusing isn\'t it . The muse . While we stand (or more likely sit) bemused at the vagrant muse . Who lights our fuse then flees the screen without an ever \"excuse me please\" , that obnoxious beast is so obtuse .

Ah - you make it all come to life in this vivid description of what it takes to create with metal. A great read my friend and thanks for sharing a job I knew so little about.

I can relate. There are things I miss, as well, as children and family and work make demands of my time. Love the flow of the words Augustus! I can hear the sounds of a busy workplace in the words.

Very good write. A friend of ours was a blacksmith, it was so good to see him create super shapes out of metal.

I watch Forged In Fire every chance I get . I see the personality in each person in every knife they make .I imagine it\'s a great feeling forging steel into a beautiful creation . Forcing the indomitable to move by will .

Funny. My notebook has this prayer on it. I love that prayer and say it often. My father was very spiritual. It made him a positive and wonderful person. Great reminder Augustus!

Sounds like some of the poets here with their daily struggles. Sometimes they are blooming all over the place and then not so much. And, thankfully they return. Very beautiful and timely!
