Those trees can be a right nuisance, I had one in our garden for years and there I was every autumn hoovering up leaves every week. I had it cut down early this year and now in autumn it is so strange not to see the autumn leaves all over the garden.

Or better still, threaten to build a big high wall and get Mexico to pay for it. We did that with the romans you know.

(sing to tune of I\'m all shook up)
Affixed to my sole
from out some doggie do\'s hole
let it be heard
I done trod in a turd
my life\'s surrounded by the smell of sh^t
oh my word
now its on my shirt
oh yeah, yeah.
I\'m all messed up
=========
ok thats enough of the elvis impressions.... back to poetry in its classical style
================
I could stroll in that park all day long
but on this occasion there was a terrible pong
and a squelchy feeling beneath my left shoe
yes you\'ve guessed it, i\'d stepped in dog poo

ahead was a spaniel wearing a doggy coat quilt
and in his eye, a distinct look of guilt
so not one to let the moment pass bye
deftly i flipped the turd in his eye
=====
as can be seen elsewhere on mps, theres some kinds of poetry which instantly get my creative juices flowing (the stains are terrible) and you\'ve scored a bulls-eye with your splendid post today.

Doggerel Dave said:

Grass (no not the stuff you roll up and light) - the horizontal green stuff...that\'s Nature, right?
Stylistically owes much to William Topaz McGonagall – to whom I am in great debt.

When that old Tay bridge came a tumbling down
McGonagall was there for the event.
Now whereas most folks think him a clown
He allows free range for my poetic bent.

Thank all you four (but who\'s counting?) for your support. Its a pity I was asleep when all the Hurrahs and Bravos came through. Didn\'t wake me. I was in a deep antipodean slumber.

Absolutely Andy.
I had two (serially monogamous) relationships in the
\'80\'s - possibly my most \'mature\' decade. I still correspond with both.
And both contribute in their own special, unique ways to \'W\' in the script.

Take care, Dave

Goldfinch60 said:

As Phil has said it is very realistic but sometime relationships do not work even after many years. It did happen to me, my first wife and I divorced but then I found my Joyce but in all that time I was still friends with my first wife, she and her husband came up and stayed with us occasionally as Joyce and I did with them.
Relationships can be many things, even just remaining friends.

Thanks Phil for your reading. Oh I suppose I\'ll have to blow my cover a little (you will probably wish you had never asked -sorry about that!)
First, M is not me - only bits. Some of W is M and some of M is W. Some pieces imported for the occasion. But I did my best to fit them both together into two coherent wholes.
On the evidence as presented, my sympathies lie largely with W, I have to say.
Women always expected to give up their individuality and move with the man. W\'s arguments there are irrefutable to me, and if I got anything out of this exercise at all, it made me feel a little better about myself for laying it out.

Take care Dave
PS: the actual me has returned to the UK a number of times since leaving in \'87. Can confirm I have, for part of the time, lodged with a lady I knew when in London....

The dialogue seems realistic. Two people of different mindsets. Your poem details the occurrence. Some people live their lives never having set foot outside of a small perimeter. For such as these it would be devastating to leave. She just did not have the courage to explore new vistas. Question - Did you consider staying?
Never expected the continuation of contact. Surprised by that. But assume you make the trip.
Thought provoking piece. Thanks - Phil A.

Noticed one theme common at MPS is Love - found , gained, rejected (or ‘unrequited’ if you want to be fancy), lost. So here’s my contribution – never to be mentioned again.
Autobiographical? – Well bits, it\'s complicated; certainly by no means all. Which bits? – Not telling. Please give me credit for a little creativity...
Any comments on the two protagonists? Their motivations etc?

PS: To whom it might concern: this is from my archive; note 2014 unaltered, nothing added.

Sherman said, \"War is Hell,\" he was right. It is the culmination of all of mankind\'s sins, greed lust, hatred, etc.
Your \"critique\" is spot on. Why is it the playground for the rich and powerful?

Loved reading this Dave, an excellent bit of storytelling.

I have an affinity with spiders myself, must be because I am a Scorpio thus a fellow arachnid.

Being a half-Scot, I like the fact that your poem has a link to the story of Robert the Bruce; using a spider\'s will to build it\'s web back up again as inspiration to be victorious at Bannockburn.

Again a brilliant write, bless Harry and Harriet, have a good one and please do take care.

A Relationship
Doggerel Dave said:

Well yeh, but some, like this one, have a certain sense of place, an assertive dignity that I begrudgingly admire; she (yes -she, something Anna knew immediately - go figure) wheedled herself into the household as a stray and in her own interactive way, rules the roost now . Got a smattering of dog in there somewhere...
Dave
PS: I don\'t want a cat like that - won\'t risk it. Took me long enough to graduate as an autonomous human being without being back under the sway of Authority.

Let\'s get this clear now before I get exhausted: My visitor was a SPIDER very much as described in the opening comment authored by me plus \'a smidgen of imaginative interpretation in the main text!!!\' as per the third entry in this comments column.
Now to business: I\'m looking forward to your spider story - or hopefully a full series soon . Please don\'t let me down.

Wow this was a fantastic super interlude with the glories of solitude and quietness very enticing the way you describe it. And whether Harry was a spider or a human visitor it was fun to read of. I like to think it was about a spider as I admire and revere spiders a lot.

Huntsmans in Australia are large (for a spider). As the common name implies, they don\'t build webs but \'hunt\' for their food. Actually there doesn\'t appear to be much activity, as they seem to adopt a \'sit and wait\' strategy. One has occasionally turned up at my place, snuggled in behind a picture on my wall and strolled out occasionally to see how the world is progressing. Did me no harm, was not evicted.
