I imagine there is more to this than meets the eye ...

it made me think long and hard and chuckle intermittently whilst also choking on my mid morning croissant ...

I too worked on modern railways, only for two years though and mainly on-board during daily journeys from London to Edinburgh and back, I believe I still have the guards T key I was gifted,
what a wonderful dip into long forgotten memory isles you\'ve gifted me with your write,
I liked your witty commentary and though I couldn\'t relate directly - you still managed to imbue that nostalgic grace such timeworn professions have, as windows to history\'s forgotten cultural treasures,
a brilliant read for me personally,
thank you for sharing Dave

Got it. Quite an extensive Wikipedia article on \'gandy dancer\'. The hand operated cars I think I\'ve seen in old silent movie chase scenes (probably a Buster Keaton, as I was quite addicted to his movies at one time).

A fine reminiscence of days and ways that are no more. Is a \"railway pushbike\" what in the US was called a \"Gandy car\"?

When you walk in the woods, you seek a path, a more direct way forward. This is true of how customs become what they are, the easiest way forward, but there are others (explorers) who choose the more difficult path and find great rewards while risking great defeats.
A thought provoking write. It exemplifies that explorer spirit. A lot of great people were non conformists. _ Phil A.

Brilliant!
when we learn to hear that voice of free thought emanating from ourselves: we need not seek any external validation, no titles to be pigeon-holed and oppressed with,
behold nature\'s intended Liberty: (as your wise words have eloquently distilled - so appetisingly relatable) is a birthright we need only excavate from within - to own: out right!
only then may we finally begin those much needed open dialogues of humanity\'s introspection and find a foothold to a path of undoing our inherited wrongdoing\'s, maybe even - some accidental healing...
have a good rest oh wise Poet, I look forward to your revitalised return,
let me offer you a slightly early season\'s greeting and a happy new year!

Agghh! Not \'Neighbours\'. The grating tune, and wooden acting. What more could one want? Bouncer the dog was the best actor in it, but he sadly went years ago.

Those trees can be a right nuisance, I had one in our garden for years and there I was every autumn hoovering up leaves every week. I had it cut down early this year and now in autumn it is so strange not to see the autumn leaves all over the garden.

Affixed to my sole
from out some doggie do\'s hole
let it be heard
I done trod in a turd
my life\'s surrounded by the smell of sh^t
oh my word
now its on my shirt
oh yeah, yeah.
I\'m all messed up
=========
ok thats enough of the elvis impressions.... back to poetry in its classical style
================
I could stroll in that park all day long
but on this occasion there was a terrible pong
and a squelchy feeling beneath my left shoe
yes you\'ve guessed it, i\'d stepped in dog poo

ahead was a spaniel wearing a doggy coat quilt
and in his eye, a distinct look of guilt
so not one to let the moment pass bye
deftly i flipped the turd in his eye
=====
as can be seen elsewhere on mps, theres some kinds of poetry which instantly get my creative juices flowing (the stains are terrible) and you\'ve scored a bulls-eye with your splendid post today.
