really liked the structure of each verse, almost an outline of a fish
and especially liked your first lines of each verse, it felt like I was diving in and out from one verse to the next: \'A fish, A gill, A skin, A fin, A flip\'
with an immersive title and a poignant accompanying picture to bind it all together
really well thought out, appreciated the layered imagery as well
nature is so engaging, abundant and accessible,
but the grey sandwich: of potholed gravel, grim - skyscraper horizons and gloomy skies drown it out, of most peoples sight

ANGELA here - Good Evening FAY - Just feeding our KOI and your Poem struck a CHORD ! When we bought our home it had a neglected Pond. Brian has renovated it and installed a Waterfall for aeration. We bought three small KOI & other fish etc.
Thanks for your *Ode to a Fish* it covers all the vital attributes which make a FISH a FISH. The Colour which makes each species distinctive - the Skin which is waterproof and almost transparent - the Fin which allows it to manoevre & its Flip which allows it to move gracefully in its 3D aquatic environment ! Delightful ! Thanks for composing (A Fave) and sharing !

Would you rather be a FISH ? Sometimes I wish !
Blessings & Peace & Joy & Love

A failed trout tickling? No, Fay wouldn\'t do that....

Though yes you would, without the final intent for supper..... re-reading...

Yes there it is... a beautiful description of truly communing with nature and the touch of a sleek wild fish.... I love the way you build this piece.... I have to ask, did you do it?

What mind does a fish possess, eyeing you?

Yep, immersed again in your words i bathed in this one. Keeping it as a fav.

Fay, what a very poignant write. The trials and tribulation of love and romance over many years , and a successful outcome. Loved this insightful depiction of life\'s realities. And a happy ending. Well done - Phil A.

Seems to me you are describing that perfect relationship which lasts and sees through the test of time.
To edgy a personality to have seen it through i fell by marriage\'s wayside. Regrets are plentiful but given those times again.....

Well you certainly got me thinking with this post

This is a fine take on one of Nature\'s great forces. We try to harness its power in sails and mills, but only meekly succeed. Unleashed it becomes wild and destructive.
You have \"Captured\" it many iterations with such great wording, that your poem must become a favorite. - Phil A.

Your mention of slavery opened up a whole new reading of this piece for me today.
It is as if mankind\'s power is akin too the power of the wind. Yes great physical strength to achieve such wonders as the pyramids and great mental strength to achieve freedom, aid, charity and justice where it is needed.
Perhaps not a perfect interpretation of your intent but it\'s an imperfect world in which we strive.

ANGELA here - Good Evening Fay ! All SEA SHELLS are masterpieces of Creation such a anug fit for each Sea Creature tht inhabits them ! 99% of those one finds on the shore are *vacant possession* and oft a refuge for homeless creatures ! B rian & I love to go to MEXICO and find Conch Shells and othe exotics and bring them Home for *authentic* pressents ! When we were Kids we used to love to collect shells on the Beach at New Brighton. Lovely Poem ad a lovely tribute - It has the shape of the two halves of an *Open Shell*. Mysterious and quite, quite beautiful each and every one. Something my siblings and me used to collect whenever we were fortunate enough to visit the coast.

One of natures marvels or Gods wonderful creations if you wish. I really know little about them other than hermit crabs find them an essential to exist. A snails shell too is a similar ting of wonder.

Love the way you romanced the dance of the empty shell as it laid to rest wherever the cruel and mighty ocean chooses....

If I\'m lucky, I may get to see the beaches in the outer hebrides which consist of nothing but shells and shell fragments. I\'m sure to be inspired if I\'m so fortunate.

i really like this one. i feel we are just one huge beating heart and loving energy placed in various outfits of colour and race. Inside we are one soul.your poem reflects how the world could be if we just realised the same blood flows in our veins whatever we look like outside. Diane
