We all wonder about this dont we. So many what if\'s and other unanswerable questions. Maybe you can judge yourself by the regard in which others hold you. The people you think are worthy people.... do they hold you in such esteem.. just a thought.

Any how \'what is life\' somebody way back when said \"life is what happens to you when you\'re busy doing something else\" (john Lennon - i wasn\'t a fan of his but that statement is quite profound).
Another great piece from you G.

Thank you for the poem and for Kathleen Ferrier - I grew up with her in the house singing Scottish ballads (records not in person!) ...... No one I have ever known (in the States) knows of her.

I reckon you know what is life, with your Christian beliefs. it seems a \'religious answer\' but we can only understand life fully with a spiritual plane, and beliefs included, I feel. We\'re not in the dark, though have times of darkness. But we have the Light of life in Jesus!

A good write Gold. You\'re a \'good man\'. When some say this to me, I feel a heart-warming.
Meanwhile - life is not a bowl of cherries. It is a plate of pork pies and many glasses of sherry! heehee.

What is life, what is our purpose, why are we here.....
These are the deep questions we all ask ourselves at some stage in our life. Very few find the answers, for the rest of us I guess we have to wait until we cross over.
Love your poem, Goldie!

Just had to make this a favorite, Goldie! Love the way you set it up and the way you ended it. Wonder what happens to that book once we are gone.

Light in Chaos.

I really like this poem, Goldie! And one does not have to be religious to believe in it. That light actually can come from anywhere. Chaos is the regular state of affairs, we just have to see through it!

A fine write Gold. Made me think of: \'The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it\'. Or in some versions...\'the darkness comprehended it not\', or \'understood it not\' (John 1 v.5).

Wonderful write! I love the outdoors, when it\'s not frozen! I do think people should be more in tune to nature also.

Goldie, you are so right. Too many people go through life wearing blinkers (blinders) just like the horses. All they see is straight ahead, missing everything else!

Well when you are raised in front of a television and given gameboy/x-box/playstation to amuse you what need is there to know your larch from your elm, your thrush from your jay, your butterfly from your moth. Let alone notice them ..... no - knock it all down and build a health club, a cinema complex, etc.
When i went to school most of the boys knew all the common birds, what their eggs looked like, which fish were in the river, could identify the trees by name.
Its a joy to step away from our humdrum urban lifes and soak up mother natures gifts in a woodland or wilderness. Hug a tree and relax, for it really is quite relaxing and refreshing.
Thought provoking writing again Mr G.

Why indeed? Most are blind - as an artist my eyes are everywhere except staring at the ground - even atmosphere is there to be observed but so many miss it all = a lovely work Andy.

This is natures way of getting back at us for the industrial revolution. This never happened before washing machines were invented.
It is with deep personal regret that i have not seen those swishing \'dollys\' of yesteryear keeping our ladies nimble every washday.
Any volunteers?

Great poem, great question, Goldie!
And you are in luck!!! I researched this phenomena for many years, actually wrote my doctoral thesis on it.
The real scientific reason is awfully complicated and would probably not be understood by most members here, so I am trying to keep it simple.
Two factors: A) The forward and backward motion of the washing machine, and B) The northern hemisphere, where water spirals clockwise. There are numerous other factors that influence this phenomena, such as the atomic weight of the shirt, the manufacturer of the soap and much much more.
I do hope I was clear enough to give you an answer to your question.
Sincerely, Dr. Fred

Super sketch and a great poem Andy. Actually I think the 2 Ronnies surpassed M and Wise in that their sketches never fail to make me laugh whilst M&W sketches tend to get a bit boring (except for the kitchen sketch of course which ranks alongside this one).
