It seems there now are many of us who were brought up in the christian tradition who have become dissatisfied with the way that religion has been \'taught\' to us in a strict and archaic \'god fearing\' manner and realised the contradictions between the lesson and the tradition/church. Having the courage to look further is truly eye opening.
These days i think of god as being \'the way\' rather than a deity. I am a spiritual person and hold those christian ethics i grew up with to be wholesome but cannot accept \'holier than thou\' attitudes from any fundamentalist regardless of their \'faith\'.
It seems that whatever god is, \'he/she/it\' has given us the ability to love and living a loving life (thats love in its broadest sense i.e. not just romantic love) surely must be the key to living a life close to \'god\' whatever that may be.
Very thought provoking writing sir!

Hi Goldfinch!
A powerful, evocative poem on religion. Thank you!
God is good all the time, mankind can be disruptive often dishonouring him.
Keep writing

Good write Gold. I\'m rather fundamental. There can be many avenues, though I don\'t see everyone as worshipping the same God.

People always talk about \"living in the moment\" but if you don\'t have the past, what is the present? And you are able to see the past when you look at your wife and how she would love you for that!

Gold,
This write is so beautiful! It’s pure love personified! My first read of the day! It brought tears to my eyes!
I look at my mom and see how she misses the man she took care of and loved!
A love such as yours for your lifetime partner is to be admired and praised every single moment of the day! YOU ARE GOLD!!! Keep playing that Johnny Mathis song! All the best !

THIS MADE ME CRY ANDY ~ I admire the strength of your love for your wife and the fact that you share that it grows every day ! I see that in some of our OLDER CHURCH members just how much they LOVE (that is the virtue !) and Care for their \"Life Partner\" to the very end and beyond ~ I pray that I will be the same ! When a Friend of mine had a stroke ~ His wife divorced HIM so there is the other side as well ! Love Johnny Mathis ~ Love the SONG ~ God\'s richest Blessing to you both ~ AMEN ~ BRIAN

We all wonder about this dont we. So many what if\'s and other unanswerable questions. Maybe you can judge yourself by the regard in which others hold you. The people you think are worthy people.... do they hold you in such esteem.. just a thought.
Any how \'what is life\' somebody way back when said \"life is what happens to you when you\'re busy doing something else\" (john Lennon - i wasn\'t a fan of his but that statement is quite profound).
Another great piece from you G.

I reckon you know what is life, with your Christian beliefs. it seems a \'religious answer\' but we can only understand life fully with a spiritual plane, and beliefs included, I feel. We\'re not in the dark, though have times of darkness. But we have the Light of life in Jesus!

A good write Gold. You\'re a \'good man\'. When some say this to me, I feel a heart-warming.
Meanwhile - life is not a bowl of cherries. It is a plate of pork pies and many glasses of sherry! heehee.

What is life, what is our purpose, why are we here.....
These are the deep questions we all ask ourselves at some stage in our life. Very few find the answers, for the rest of us I guess we have to wait until we cross over.
Love your poem, Goldie!
