Is this (dare I ask?) from experience?
Only having been part of night manoeuvres in a mock battle as a voluntary army cadet during my youth, it felt very real. Good stuff.
BTW the whole thing (orders, square bashing etc ) convinced me, as with sunday school and religion, to stay clear.

Soulful words so artfully strewn together - must be placed in the higher echelons of poetry and poets

hauntingly beautiful and retaining a ragged, harsh realness only history can lend ... all wrapped and sealed in much more than a half decent poem sir ...

I know now why I had to come here to this site today. Was to read your beautiful poem. What a gem. I was long without coming here and read or write anything. I can see the progress here. Congrats on your writing

Oh the solemn pathos in these heart-tugging lines - that lonely walk depicts what happens when unfeeling wasteland takes all - \"\'cept the heart\" -- a sigh of a read my friend.

Oh the pathos in your every line D.A. which highlights the loss of a special someone who has left a heart truly holed. Letting memories soothe the missing is the message I see in these lines today.

Yes - memories. When you\'ve had some life history, memories tend to well up (do for me anyway) - hopefully happy, but occasionally those like yours, tinged with sadness - I got that very easily. - thanks.

Such an emotive read which tugs at the heartstrings - - deep-rooted desires for simple belonging need no modern chaos of noisy life. Love the picture and number too.

Wonderful words d a. In these current times people seem to be getting closer together by helping each other, as an old codger many of my neighbours ask if I need any help as I do to them.

Yes - good write, Dusk.
MPS is your village (is for me) especially, I would think, during lockdown.
I\'ve moved around a bit over my lifetime so any roots I put down have been relatively shallow. Just not sure that while feeling safe, I could have enjoyed the strictures on behaviour which are an inevitable part of small community life...
