Agreed, Michael – the bed has been made. But it seems no one (not here anyway) appears to learn from its history (Dave banging on about history again) in order to not make the same mistake again. Cameron, so weak, couldn’t make the right decision on behalf of his constituents, turned the decision over to them – despite the fact that the majority of registered voters would have no idea of the complexities of the workings of an intensely interrelated world (not sure I did, but was at least aware of my ignorance).
Add to the mix the relatively impoverished once industrial North - Thatcher has a lot to answer for (now, would you believe touted as an environmentalist, because she took on the miners –aaah) as she turned industrial wealth to capital wealth – which produces nothing, but makes the south look resplendently wealthy.
PS: Who says the Govt is incompetent? Isn’t there a better descriptor……?

Great sentiments - still not sure if Bexit is the problem or if it\'s the failure of an incompetent Government to manage the process - but either way the bed\'s been made.

I\'m always amazed when one deluded man declares war, the others see fit to join in the madness. Soldiers do the job they signed up for, when they get injured, they get forgotten.

A very powerful and well written poem. Kudos to you for telling the true tale of war. My husband was drafted during the Vietnam War, fortunately he was sent to Germany and never saw combat. He had friends who did go, and came back very different people, one didn\'t come back at all. For the first time, we saw on TV, the horror of war and people reacted. And now it is played out 24/7 on cable news and people are reacting. How long before we become proactive in preventing instead of reactive with killing? Those who serve deserve far better.

Pathetic isn\'t it \"I\'ll have my men sent in to kill your men and children\" and what does it achieve? What did any great war achieve twenty five years later?
I think Sting says it all in his \"childrens crusade\" back in the 80\'s.

Yours a poignant piece in light of what we see in the world today and have seen time and again in history. Yes we must respect veterans who faced the bullets in ignorance of our \"finer, mature late in the day wisdom\". It is by luck alone our own younger days were not ended in war in an exertion of our own youthful zest for combat stirred into action by politics.

War\'s devastation penned with linguistic excellence - - a most compelling read Dave - - veterans deserving sympathy for being used as fodder for further top-brass pensions is something with which I totally agree - -- this powerful verse has been sent to my list of favourites and thanks for sharing your views on those refusing to kill.

Enjoyed this. Chewing gum on pavements, under the desk in the classrooms less nowadays. Dog poo not so much now in the streets. I still look down as I walk to make sure I don\'t step in anything yucky.

I remember this song from wee childhood days along with hang down yer head tom dooley from Lonnie.

A disgusting habit to discard chewing gum onto the pavement. I\'ve never experience that on my shoe but the ubiquitous doggy doo has accosted my footwear all too often. Worse when you take it into a car/van. My worst experience of that ilk was when i made an evening visit to do a survey for some work in a prospects home, on stepping throught the front door into their hallway i stepped into a pile of dog turds on the carpet.... the rest of the house was a shit hole as well.
