I got images with this one. Everyone looks for the fattest turkey to roast. (Where a roast is a dressing down of someone in celebration, usually with gathered group) Sounds like an American Thanksgiving to me. Well done Tobani

Wow, my friend! You captured the quiet ritual and ache of those moments with such clarity and honesty. It’s haunting—but also brave. That last stanza especially lingers for me…scars as silent witnesses to our younger selves. Indeed. And so they are. A fave from me. Well done. 🌹👏

This painfully familiar plight of too many, and as you apparently well know, youths at that, has a darker root than most prefer to acknowledge whence I\'ll not tell you presently. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.

Yes, cutters, like anorexics have always left me at a loss when I encountered them in hospital, and I\'d be the first to admit that the utilisation of those labels should not be considered acceptable in a therapeutic environment. But I\'m not there now. Only glad I did not be required to make decisions with respect to treatment.
Thanks for your input, Tobani - every little contribution helps.

This poem left me sad that at a young age such behavior was necessary to leave you feeling free. We all leave marks on ourselves some good some bad from tattoos to scars and we are stuck with them through life as marks of the past. Well written Tobani

Nice, PL. I don\'t know how far down that \'basement floor\' is, but I think I might end up there as well. You have encapsulated a lifetime into this poem, and i felt the last lines were referring to the final judgement. A most enjoyable read. - Phil A.

Tobani…this one tore right through me. 😔 The pacing—line by line—mirrors the descent, the pleading, the hope, and finally…the blow. And the ending is cold. Crushing. Perfectly delivered. You gave voice to the quiet anguish so many carry but rarely articulate. Powerful, painful, and unforgettable. 🌹👏

Tobani this one has the feel of a train or metro ride each announcement coming over the speaker. I don\'t buy that the final destination is overloaded though after having watched people down here. More likely the basement is overloaded. A fun read

Damn, Tobani…this one cut clean. ✂️ The rhythm pulled me in, but it’s that turn—“the wrong half”—that hits like a gut punch. Simple. Surgical. Devastating. You said more in eight lines than most can in eighty. Respect, my friend. 🌹👏
