Come on by the Fire (A Song)
Goldfinch60 said:

Such true words Ben, all the time we are being stopped from being able to say and do what many of us know is the better way to make our lives so much better.

When you have the balance so right, who be the apes?!
I’ve lived in town, while I now live in a city. Preference town every time. The city is a large machine which can be very alienating. However, paradoxically large swathes of the city, particularly if they are well established and not new developments, form themselves into villages within. One other advantage would be quick access to medical treatment (a plus for them of a certain vintage such as myself!)
When younger I lived in a town, popn 70,000, and this was a nice comfortable size for me. However nothing stays the same: now 185,000.
Your post has a great truth there, expressed in a real poetic way, as per Rocky (above).

This is marvelously written, dear poet. Your rhymes, your alliteration, and your images just flow so cohesively in this magnum opus. I also adore the theme, being a townie myself (literally born and bred in the heart of Miami), I can relate very much.

Nothing quite like it really, always re-writing, re-spinning, re-inventing, and rehashing revisionist narrative. A grad delusion that sometimes is encouraged by its very victims.

Bella Shepard said:

Dear poet your words ring so very true. I find myself these days avoiding 24 hour TV news as well as internet. I may scroll past every once in a while just to keep up, but not to be inundated. I find real life in nature each day which keeps me grounded, and allows me to tolerate all else with a skeptical and questioning eye. A great and timely write!

Mystified, not necessarily by its sentiments, but by to whom (and there was someone, surely? Too many specific references to be otherwise) this piece was addressed.

Hopeless Romantic (A Poem on Valentine’s Day)
Bella Shepard said:

If we could somehow understand the multifacted, ever changing face of love, as you so aptly describe it, we might hold the keys to the universe. Love is ever changing, ever growing, ever leaving. Little did Winston Churchill know when he said \"An enigma wrapped in a mystery\" he was talking about love. I certainly enjoyed this write dear friend, well done!

\"Christmas\" (or I, as a non believer prefer \' The Festive Season\') was, in the Northern Hemisphere, originally celebrated as the Winter Solstice. Later overlaid by Christianity, and then the final indignity, Santa Claus and so on........Bah humbug! .................. ............... I still engage in an exchange of presents on Xmas day.........
Take care of yourself, AS.

I remember too my poem about that extra second we had one year, and how I spent it, e.g. sailed round the world 7,643 times; flew to Australia and back 4,386 times; and much more stuff! lol.

This tribute to those many lives given for peace and freedom certainly leaves lots of food for thought - A fine reminder of what we would do should we get chance to use those two minutes of reflective silence. Into my list of favourites goes this poem for Armistice and thank you for sharing it.

What a terrible contrast - our dear departed Queen, and a monster still living.
There\'s an Open Mic Night but folk are allowed to boo the poets if they don\'t like them. Bit risky for poets. If they boo me, I will sing the poem and torture them! heehee.

It certainly engaged me - the anxieties felt in that situation came through...and if I unlocked the old memory bank....

Rocky Lagou said:

This is wonderful dear poet! The way you encapsulated the essence of who she was as not only a queen, but a human as well, is wonderful. I also love how detail-oriented you were by making sure this poem was exactly 40 lines long. Magnificent homage. R.I.P to the Queen.
