Dear friend, another arrow to the heart. I think Putin\'s KGB background perhaps helped set the stage for who he is today. He knows only force to achieve what he wants, and if he can\'t get it, he destroys it. He will fall, as all dictators eventually do, but how many are yet to suffer from him before that happens. In the meantime his own country will continue to suffer as well. Good write!

Once again you hit on a very problematic scenario, small busines in decline. I remember, when I was young, many moons ago, we would buy from the mom & pop store on the corner. They died out when the era of the mega stores and huge shopping malls was ushered in. Now we contend with Amazon and any number of other online retailers, who keep people in their homes and on the computer to shop. It was so much nicer actually going into a store and conversing with the person behind the counter, whom you came to know , and who treated you well. We can\'t seem to get enough stuff, and get it as fast as possible. I share your lament my friend, but at least I rcan say that I remember the good old days. Very timely and very well written.

I\'m gonna sing \' Things can only get better...\' When? we may ask, or ask in some cases.
Bit like \'Now a new (so-called) comedy show on telly\'. I reply: \'Where?\' When?\' and: \'Laugh? I never even started!\' lol.
Comedy was good on telly up to, oh, about 1975 generally. Doh!

I would say that Skip Rat Pam, is quite a mam, a lady with a plan. The first verse \"Who’s that scurrying? Who’s that hurrying?
Who’s the one shaking around,
and somewhat worrying? Could have your next super hero there! Such a fun read my friend!

The Offside Rule
Goldfinch60 said:

Football is a farce and all about money nowadays. I do not watch football, but rugby is so much more enjoyable - the Rugby Union World Cup starts on 8th September, I have watched EVERY match in last two world cups.

My dear friend, I remember when the games of sport were just that, games to be enjoyed by the masses. When Sports became an industry, and the bottom line was profit versus entertainment, it lost its gloss. I hear you and cheer you!

Impossible to truly get one\'s head around.
Last two lines - neat argument against capital punishment, worth your effort for that alone.

How such an abberation of a human being can exist is beyond comprehension. What can corrupt a mind so, that it carries out such diabolical acts? It is heart wrenching to think of all that those parents have suffered, and will live with forever. A very powerful write for a difficult subject, and so well done dear friend.

Sometimes I think we need to rework what we call the \"work ethic\". In many ways it\'s come to mean how much time you have to put in on the job, rather than the quality of work. I wish quality could trump quantity, perhaps more would get done in a shorter, smarter way, giving quality of life a more prominent role. You\'ve hit the proverbial nail on the head my friend with this poem, great write!

‘For a life full lived, is both sweet and rotten’ untying the grasp of the ego through acceptance of nothing is being all good or bad-sounds so personal and universal: thanks for the good write! Immaculate!

Salud sir! This is an authentically masculine poem! It brought back the memory of certain object of my father he brought over and used from many oceans! It is universal and personal, thought of the Viking artifacts and throughly American in spirit! Thanks for sharing!

Australia had a similar: the three of them came out of the same mould with just marginally different paintwork.
A well targeted piece, Ben; the choice of sketch a perfect accompaniment - I only hope it comes to pass.
