What an interesting subject and well written. I like this. I\'ve done a bit of gigging and my argument against it is that you reach the point of monotony hammering out the same songs and that starts to kill the very songs that once inspired you. I guess jazz might be different though with more improvisation.

The sparkle may have been missing in the jazz performance, but it definitely is not missing in your writing!
And you brought up an interesting subject. The way we experience something, be it music, art, or anything else. I think that experience is made up of two parts, one the performer, and two yourself. As you mentioned in the poem, these were renowned musicians, playing superbly, so your expectations were very high to start with. Maybe too high. With lower expectations you might have perceived it differently. Or, it could have been that they were off their usual playing for whatever reason, and did not meet your high expectation. In order to be totally satisfied, performance has to meet expectation.

Thanks Michael, it may well have been me being off but jazz normally lifts me up and these were some of the top players in the country, maybe they are getting passed their best but I saw one of them a few weeks ago and he was superb.

Maintaining performance is one of those obstacles that hinder even the most experienced. I have been giving a series of art demonstrations around the county showing different abstract techniques. They have gone down really well hence proving popular and yet a few weeks ago doing nothing different the evening went flat - I don\'t know why - could have been I was just off - could have a more hostile audience to all this abstract rubbish but that\'s how it goes. Great scribe Andy.

I too belonged to a poetry group before moving ... a group I helped found, and named. It was a lot of enjoyment sharing and commenting on our work, much like we do here. Well done, Goldie, this interpretation of John Masefield\'s poem!

Wow Unique title! Catches the attention. This makes me think of littered beaches n polluted seas with your creative ink . Awesomely hardhitting n laments poetically. May be metaphorically intended as well. Interesting poem. Kudos for the rhyming too.
So nice to read from your pen again,
Pls do review my latest and add your thoughts on it.

Goldie, I feel for you! I am cooking most of the meals at home here and once in a while I am in the same position as you were. Everything is fine EXCEPT for that one dish that just did not come out right. You know what? Enjoy what worked and disregard what didn\'t. Who cares, there are a lot of meals to follow!

Oh how we berate ourselves when we err - so easy so to do - but the rest of the meal I am sure was perfection. I can spot 2 veg, pots and gravy making a total of 5 with the pud - one failure in 5 aint that bad in my book - and the meat was slightly rare - what more can you ask for? By the way Morrisons creamed horse radish sauce is the best imho with little bits that explode in the mouth - great stuff, great write .

Seriously, maybe it is my age, but you brought up many of the questions I am asking myself all the time.

Also, a Christian believer said to me one day: \'See you in the Rapture, if not before\'. Hmm, yes, I suppose that is when we will see a believer again, if we don\'t ever see them again on this earth.
Me singing will be rapturous then. All will be OK. Phew!

I shall never understand the hymn lines:
\'Even eternity\'s too short, To extol thee\'. It\'s hyperpole, exaggeration for effect, I think. How can eternity be \'too short\'?
A fine write Gold. I\'ve just thought of it as a state of being. If it\'s a path I don\'t think it will be a circle. But oh no! Will you hope I\'m not on the same path, cos I shall sing for eternity? It will be lasting torment. heehee.
