My grandfather used to read the obituaries when I asked why he said to see who he still knew one day he was no longer reading them and I asked why he said I don\'t know anybody any more.

Now, we may cross people off our Christmas card list by our own choice, but sadly some pass away, and the list gets shorter.

It can seem that way Neville but in my case I have been very lucky and found love that lasts forever as I am sure that you have.

At first glance I thought that the l on lord was a capital and it took me in another direction. That would have been good too. But then I thought this is Neville he wouldn\'t write that. I have to read poems more than once with my careless eye. The feel I get is one of shock, sadness over deterioration and change. I have seen photos of celebrities when young and old and how they have changed and likewise photos of family members of mine and even myself. This poem fits so well. Some really good lines (old rope, empty oyster shells, and cold lava flows) each a different element of the aging process. Frayed not as strong, lacking life, having lost past heat and flexability. (perfect cut red rose, bleeding out, yet while, drowning amid, silent death throes) the insidious nature and silence of aging. What was perceived as a blush now seen as a bruise. A haunting and too real write Neville

It\'s, it\'s-- blame it on whatever suffices but, it must be my present silliness which made me nearly laugh aloud in reading, unless you so intended that. If not, please, please forgive me. Beautifully rendered with a bittersweet and haunting poignancy, imagery surpassing excellence and a charm which, like a good cuppa wafts sweetness despite all, or shall we call the conclusion the tannins? [I apparently like them for more than tanning leather.] Thank you for sharing.

Enjoyed, Neville, but why the enigmatic contradiction in the last five lines, and why don\'t others....I feel a dissociative state coming on......

I adore this, very inspiring...

(Like raindrops on old cobbles falling,)
A gentle rhythm, a soft enthralling,
Each drop a story, a whispered tale,
Of journeys long, and winds that prevail.

I can sense, see, and feel each individual splash,
A tiny drama, a fleeting flash,
As water dances, a watery ballet,
On worn grey stones, where shadows play.

Second chances are like 2 in a million, but we all wonder and never forget. The most powerful word in this poem is \"if.\" This poem captures a universal dilemma, lost love. There is no going back no matter how many times we dream of it happening. All that\'s left is a memory. - Phil A.

What\'s so charming about this one is that it should resonate with countless since too many of us have begun pining again over missing lovers. Oh! The piercing ache! The yearning to have a second chance where the first plummeted. Beautifully rendered with excellent spirit and that superbly haunting poignancy which drives us insane.

Missing someone and hoping to find them in the future. The \"rains\" of separation, the comfort of home, the \"buds\" of hope, all images that lead one to think that someone is missed. And then the sad conclusion that they cannot be found. This poem comes to that sad ending, and the reader was expecting a much happier one. A terrific poem. Loved it. - Phil A.
