That wry twist in concluding with echoes of O. Henry, leaves more of a smirk than a happy smile as chagrin replies. Superb. Disarmingly rendered with excellent imagery and a tantalizingly haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.

Whether taken literally as being about gangs and gang violence, or metaphorically to mean something else, this is a poem with a powerful punch, Tobani. Well done!

Too often things separate us as family and then we have to ask what is family and its value. A most interesting write that asks the reader to dive deep into values of affiliation.

I came across an article that was saying that death (of the body) begins in the legs. Your poem brought back some sweet childhood memories. Thank you!
Now, what did Bruce Lee say ? \"Be like water.\" And of course, I don\'t think he meant stagnant water. Flowing water!

Water means everything to everything.
Failed as a beverage, however.

Wishful thinking is fun to do my friend, and this got me thinking wishfully. Thank you for that. The idea of the waves rolling over your feet and the healing feeling the ocean generally has when in it...barring when its rough...really pulled off well here my friend. And it brought me to the beach in my mind...which is never a bad thing. This need not necessarily be about the ocean, but that is the image I had when I read it. Well done! πΉπ

Water, one of the four basic elements of old. It cleanses, is powerful and flexible. Used as a symbol of cleansing of sins in baptism in Christianity. The Tao speaks of its qualities. Listen to Melville who devotes chapters on its metaphor. A wonderful and powerful poem T.

Hang Your Head in Shame
Goldfinch60 said:
Fine write Tobani, organised religion is a farce. I used to be a believer in the Christian religion and was a Chaplain for a while. But when my wife started suffering from dementia it took he way down and she die from it, all her long life she had sung and praised the christian god but where was he when she needed him. I was singing in the choir at church one day when I came to the conclusion that organised religion was a fayce and it was like a weight was lifted from my mind, I still believe that there is a force out there that I call god but there is no longer any organisation that runs it.
May you god go with you Tobani.

Hang Your Head in Shame
Tristan Robert Lange said:
Where there are people the potential for abuse exists. Where people are amassed in power structures, the potential increases even more because the sins of the abusers in power get hidden in plain view from the masses, meaning many see it going on but are either brainwashed or feel powerless and silenced. Of course, silence should never be an option when it comes to witnessing abuse, otherwise you become complicit and an abuser of sorts yourself. All these thoughts, and much more, come to mind when reading this. I would add to your ending, and it is quite Biblical, that anyone who is to blame should not just hang their head in shame, but do so over the abyss with a millstone tied to their neck. Anyway, well done on this. A very strong statement. All abuse needs to be exposed and eradicated. Period. πΉπ
